Experience

I have taught 2nd grade in Douglas County for eight years, 3rd grade for three, and provided reading support for children in grades K-3.  This is my third year teaching 4th grade and I am super excited about continueing my journey this year focusing on Social Studies, Reading, and Writing. I began my teaching career at Lithia Springs Elementary in 2000 and concluded my time there in 2006. Since my time here as a patriot I have seen many students embrace learning as an adventure and have fostered student growth both socially and academically.  This is my third year as a member of our fabulous fourth grade team here at Bill Arp!   I absolutely love my opportunity to teach on a team whose knowledge and teammwork is unbeatable in the molding and mentoring of our students here at Bill Arp Elementary.

Bio

My name is Robin Shirley and it is my pleasure to be a Bill Arp Patriot.  This is my tenth year teaching at Bill Arp and my fifteenth year employed with the Douglas County School System.  I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of  the  Bill Arp community and I have embraced my experience as not only a homeroom teacher, but as a reading support teacher as well.  I am extremely excited to start each day with a smile amongst an incredible group of 4th grade teachers and eager new learners.

I am originally from Starke, Florida and I have been a resident of Georgia for 15 years.  Upon graduating from High School I became a cast member for Walt Disney World.  I served as a sales associate in the jewelry shop and candy shop at the Magic Kingdom as a seasonal employee.  I graduated from Athens State University in Athens, Alabama with a Bachelors in Elementary Education in 2000.   Shortly after graduation, I moved to Georgia to teach at Lithia Springs Elementary and this began my teaching adventure for Douglas County Schools.   My journey has consisted of five wonderful years as a 2nd grade teacher at LSES and I am in my tenth rewarding school year here at Bill Arp Elementary.

I have been happily married for 10 years, and my husband and I have two children. Our son, Keith, is 20 and is a graduate of Alexander High School.  Faith, our daughter, is starting her junior year at AHS and plays fastpitch softball.    My family and I spend much of our time camping in our pull behind camper and cheering for Faith at her games. We also love traveling to various places for memorable family vacations.
